I know it has been a while since the last time I posted something on my website, but here I go again!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I wanted to draw something quickly to improve on my sketching skills. It can be quite difficult to capture the movement of an animal and therefore I decided it was time to start practicing this skill. My example horse was a Penny poster (again). I can hear you thinking: Did that poster truly show a Barbie horse?<\/em> No, it did not, but I did turn the pictured horse into a barbie horse! <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The actual example photo depicted a chestnut cantering horse. I started of by sketching, as that is usually the thing your start with;) I tried to start of with just basic shapes, like circles to show where the belly, the legs and the head should be. After this I continued by connecting these circles and slowly filling up the blank spaces. I shifted the positioning of the legs several times until I was satisfied with the result.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Then I started to outline the horse with a black fine liner and erased all the pencil lines. Now that the base was there I could color it like a coloring page. I decided to color it pretty rough, since coloring was not the main focus for today. Besides, I also wanted to try a different technique for coloring, using alcohol markers instead of pencils. The choice for pink and purple was unconscious, based on the fact that they were just the first colors I could find. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Of course there are things I could improve on, especially in the coloring as you can still see all separate pen stripes, but all in all, I am quite satisfied with the result. I believe the legs are positioned realistically and create the impression that the horse is cantering. So, the sketching did work out! <\/p>\n\n\n\n
