Brown watercolor horse – Day 1
This drawing is part of my 30-days drawing challenge, in which I’ll try to make a new drawing/painting daily.
Today, it’s time for a new challenge: watercolor painting. I have used watercolor pencils before, but I have never painted a horse with traditional watercolors. This horse painting is an experiment, and I was pleasantly surprised by the beautiful result. I particularly like the colors of the paint.
As always, I started by sketching the horse from a poster. Once I was satisfied with my sketch, I gave the horse a primer, coloring every part the same light color. Then, I added shadows where shadows were present and added details like the nostrils and a small star on his face. Then, I painted the mane and tail a darker brown.
Finally, I colored the eyes black and added white reflective spots with POSCA markers because I didn’t have black watercolors. Lastly, I added cheerfully colored flowers to the background.
